ADHD Summer Camp for Illinois Residents

Illinois kids with ADHD are used to working hard just to keep up with the demands of social mores and making and maintaining friendships. Camp Sequoia is a place where that effort finally leads to real momentum and longitudinal results. Our Director spent his summers on the southside of Chicago and has fond memories of deep-dish pizza and Lang Lee’s Chinese food, all while being a Cubs fan in the White Sox part of town. Currently, one of our clinical staff spends the academic year in a therapy practice not too far from the friendly confines of Wrigley Field and works with her team and our kids during the summer months.

Camp Sequoia is a supportive overnight summer camp in Pennsburg, Pennsylvania. Campers come for classic camp fun and stay because the environment makes social success possible.

Summer Exploration in a Supportive Environment

At Sequoia, we blend a traditional activity schedule with a deliberately structured day. That means clear expectations, consistent routines, and staff who understand that attention and regulation drive social outcomes. Many Illinois families are looking for something between ‘regular camp’ and a program that feels overly clinical. We live in that middle space. Campers work on real-life executive functioning skills – organization, time management, bi-directional communication and reading the room. Camp Sequoia is built out of the same daily demands that trip kids up at home.

Our campus supports those goals with design and options: Dungeons and Dragons, Magic, Larping, STEM, multiple full-sized gyms, courts for basketball and tennis, art studios, a competition-sized pool, and an 800-acre lake. Campers get to be active, creative, and in their preferred activities while also practicing how to manage themselves in a group.

For a deeper look at how structure supports executive functioning, our blog post ‘Summer Camp: A Place for an Executive Functioning Victory’ is worth your time.

Our PA Residential Summer Camp is a Great Fit for Illinois Families

If you’re traveling in from Chicago, the suburbs, or elsewhere in Illinois, the logistics are very manageable. Families often tell us that a flight east is a small trade for a summer where their child feels understood and included and returns home with an air of confidence ready to start the next academic year with a win.

Getting to camp from Illinois

  • Direct flights to Philadelphia are common from Chicago-area airports, with a short drive to Pennsburg.
  • Driving from the Midwest is possible for some families who prefer a road trip, especially for the six week summer.
  • We’ll talk through what works best for your family during the enrollment process.

We also share practical strategies for home and school breaks on our blog. Two good starting points: ‘MESH Curriculum’ and ‘ADHD Resources for Parents’.
