Beach in Hawaii

Oahu and the Big Island of Hawaii

Aug 5th-17th, 2024*

*Dates may be subject to slight changes depending on flight logistics

Senior/LIT’s and Sequoia Alumni

This is an exciting blend of fun, sun, history, and culture led by Director Lux who lived in Hawaii for two years and served as the founding Director of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park Institute. He has coordinated domestic and international trips for kids for 10+ years (including trips to Hawaii) and is excited to offer this experience to the Camp Sequoia family again in 2024. We are pleased to have a Retired National Park Service Interpretive ranger join us on our island explorations as we support real-life skills development in an authentic small-group experience.

3 days on Oahu, 10 days on the Big Island +Optional Island add-on for two nights and three days of a different island flavor

Polynesian Cultural Center, Honolulu, Waikiki Beach, Pearl Harbor, Aloha Swap Meet and Diamond Head Point and Trail.

Big Island

Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, South Point, Green and Black Sand Beaches, Macademia Nut Farm and Factory, Imiloa Science Center, Angel and Akaka Falls, Pohoiki Warm Ponds, Volcano Farmer’s Market and the towns of Hilo, Kona and Waimea. No trip would be complete without a deep sea fishing excursion and some snorkeling. Other local excursions (such as lava tours, rainforest interpretation and more) are available based upon camper interest.

We fly to the islands a few days after the end of camp to catch dinner and the sunset on Waikiki Beach with evening ocean or pool swim. Explore Diamond Head, Honolulu and environs before heading to Pearl Harbor and the famed Aloha Bowl (former home of the NFL All-Star Game) and the Aloha Swap Meet. A short 40 minute flight takes us to the Big Island of Hawaii where we will settle in and enjoy a dip in the ocean near our accommodation. From this base we have an opportunity to see, learn, and truly experience local culture around the Big Island drawing on expert knowledge of local haunts and adventures in addition to highlights listed above. We’ll enjoy traditional cuisine, and have the opportunity to learn to shop and cook some traditional dishes and explore the wide variety of what the Big Island has to offer.

We return to the Philadelphia area at the end of our experience, capping off our adventure of learning and incredible life experiences. Discounted cost for 2024 enrolled residential full season campers from both programs is $8,025.00*. Tuition includes outbound/return airfare and baggage fees, ground transportation, interisland flights, all meals, laundry, and accommodations in Waikiki and on the Big Island as well as experienced local guiding and interpretation with favorite Sequoia staff.

Please note that we are capping enrollment on this trip to provide an authentic local, family style excursion that allows us to have personal experiences throughout our adventure that would not be possible with a larger group.

Teens on alumni adventure weekend

Campers who enroll on this trip will be expected to set a positive example during camp and the Aloha Adventure team will have several in-camp planning meetings with Director Lux as they prepare for their adventure.

*Seniors enrolled for full season and LITs/LIT graduates may enroll (on a space available basis) for the price of $8,025.00. Twilights from the girls program are offered the same $1,000 discount. All other participants will be charged $9,025.
